1st International Multidisciplinary Conference on Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods
July 7-9 2016
The conference took place in TEI PELOPONNESE, Kalamata, Greece under the auspices of Journal Current Research in Nutrition and Food Science and was jointly organized with ELGO Dimitra, Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food and our Institute TEI PELOPONNESE.
It was completed successfully and attracted more than 100 participants from all over the world. 45 oral presentations and 74 poster presentations took place in 2 days.
Romania, UK, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Ireland, Turkey, Poland, Algeria, Chile, Russia, France, Belgium, Greece and Cyprus were amongst the participant countries.
I would like to thank our 3 keynote speakers and the one invited speaker for their contributions.
Round table discussions were held at the end of 2nd day on extra virgin olive oil where its importance and health benefits were considered. It was stressed that it is not only one major compound for these benefits but a mixture of compounds. Moreover, it was highlighted that chemical dangers need to be taken into account such as pesticide residues, dioxins, plasticizers. Moreover, the importance of PDO for the area was discussed and training needs for the people working in this area were identified.
During the 3rd day a technical tour was carried out visiting an olive oil plant, sightseeing and tasting dishes from the West of Mani area.

There has been expression of interest for the next conference to take place in Chile, this needs to be discussed and confirmed.

Aims and Objective:
The aim of the conference is to bring together scientists from different fields (food science, engineering, nutrition, production, safety, consumer science) with producers and industry representatives in the growing area of functional foods and neutraceuticals.
